DDoS attacks are not dangerous in that they'll infect you (like viruses or malware) there's no risk involved... It's basically a group of people/computers that are trying to send a bunch of garbage traffic at someone to overload them which effectively puts huge strain on the network which slows things down for everyone (best case) or takes the whole network down and no one can access anything (worst case).
