  • Third-party Cable Tag

My VMedia cable internet transfer date has been set and according to the confirmation email from VMedia, a technician visit is NOT needed. However, I've heard some horror stories where a Rogers tech cut the cable at a later date thinking it was no longer in use since it was not "tagged" properly for 3rd-party use.

How can I ensure the cable to my house is "tagged" properly?
Is it a physical tag that I can put out somewhere?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

I too have read about this on DSL reports - is there something in place at VMedia to protect customers from over-zealous techs?
Forum discussion: Got Teksavvy Cable, and Rogers TV. Plan to scrap the TV package. Will this affect my cable internet? Im assuming they will temporarily just unhook the line to attach some filter that blocks the tv or something and rest of the internet will continue t

I don't think there is any way to ensure it gets tagged, and doing it at the box at your house is generally a waste of time. If they have a disconnect order they will disconnect with or without a home made tag. If I understand it correctly they may also disconnect at the tap, not your house, and this may be where they tag it as well since I have nothing visible at my residence.

So I phoned Rogers and spoke to billing, then tech support, then customer care. None of them had any idea what I was talking about when I asked them to ensure my address was tagged as 3rd party. I guess we'll see what happens...

If the transfer is done correctly (make sure if you haven't switched yet TELL them you are going to TPIA once the cancellation is underway and get the cancellation ID) this SHOULD halt the disconnect order that would be automatically generated by Rogers systems. I cancelled everything at once and haven't had an issue yet, but I'm still concerned if they were to audit my neighbourhood the potential still exists that I could be disconnected. I have no way of telling if my line has been tagged or not, the tap is on my front yard but I couldn't exactly sit around watching them like a hawk to make sure that wasn't disturbed .

I finally spoke to someone at Rogers that knew what TPIA was but even she didn't know of a way to tag my address TPIA but thought it happened as part of the 3rd-party vendor taking over the account. I've been live with Vmedia Cable45 for 2 weeks now and so far, so good.

Wow, guess I dodged a major bullet. I was so firkin peeved with Robers Cable, That when I heard one of there techs had to be sent to the house to do the work, I told VMedia to never mind about the cable, and went with DSL. Best choice I ever made.

Today marks 2 months with Vmedia for me and I've had no issues with Rogers as I had feared. I'm very happy with the quality of Vmedia's service.
