  • Setting up a universal remote?

Question - I haven't signed up yet, but am planning on doing so sometime in the near(ish) future, I think. Does anybody have any experience setting up their VBox with a universal remote? Any success/horror stories? Much as I hate to admit it, if I have to add another remote to the mix aside from our universal remote, that could be a dealbreaker for the wife.

I use a Logitech Harmony remote with my Vbox. I had to program it manually since the Vbox isn't in Logitech's database, but it only took a few minutes.

Same. It's pretty easy to do with logitech's software.

I have an EMTEC H510US and it learned the keys no problem. It also allows you to not have to point directly at the box also.

Air Keyboard by Alexey Filatov (red icon in the App Store) I think I posted directions before. PM me if you need help. Go to browser on the vbox, download the android server from the website (it is in the description of the app, download pro version). Open file manager on vbox, do to downloads and install. When it finishes, click run NOT done. Quickly look at the bottom for a four digit password, you will need this, it's tiny, it disappears quick. Once it's done and you have the password, run the app on the iPad and it will find it. Enter the password and away you go. Great, great app.

Thanks, this is a great app. Using it on iPad, no need to physical keyboard anymore as we all have too many remote controllers.

Thanks everybody - I have a Harmony remote as well, and duh, of course I can just program it manually. Didn't even think about that, as it's never something I've needed to do before, but of COURSE I can just do that. Thanks for the tips re: keyboard and mouse apps on the iPad though, those will both come in handy.

Hey, I am trying to program a Logitech 650 manually and using the point VBox remote to Logitech remote process for one to learn the other. In doing so many fo the commands do not work, and the channel up and down tend to skip 2-3 channels each time. Is there a better way to program? Looks like some have had some success here. Thanks

To those of you using Air Keyboard - any idea how to reset the password on the Android app? Or will I have to uninstall/re-install it? I have it set up with my android phone, but forgot to write down the password to try it out with my iPad.

I was messing around with it on my android phone, and it seems flaaaaaaky - keyboard input doesn't work with my default android keyboard, I have to use the on-screen keyboard instead (which is TINY). It loses connection all over the place. Also, the server doesn't seem to start for me when I reboot my box. I'd prefer not to have to use the iPad for this... So I may end up having to purchase something else instead. Hopefully the new remote that George and the boys are working on will be good enough.

And upon further testing, I have absolutely given up on Air Keyboard. What a pain in the butt that app is. Lol.

The air keyboard is only good on the iPad. Works flawlessly. I can't recommend it for smaller devices. There are many more options for android that are great. I was only addressing the iPads in that post.
