has anyone had any success installing (upgrading) kodi for older (preloaded for Vbox) version 12.2 xbmc..either diretcly through the box or through a shared work/homegroup? cuz i cant do it directly unless i use a browser and I HATE using browser that wont support this action on my box, i think i tried and it failed to load or unzip the necessary files and /or the files of the ARM (android) fails to dll.. so, all is left is loading and unzipping files via Windows Network (SMB) BUT when i do this (install from zip file), i get a message - add on does not have correct structure -
they got me all confused with all their releases now..gotham, kodi, helix ....blah blah blah..lol
so, curious if anyone has a better way, or am i missing a step or two? or should i only worry about installing v13.2 ? thank you in advance and Happy Holydays!

I downloaded Kodi it to the USB drive I use for PVR. Installed no problem from there. Only issue I have found is I lose all my settings such as skin settings, etc., for no reason at all.

thanks, drop box or a folder via workgroup i have tried and tried ..the file shows up using the "Install from zip file" and finding the unzipped files in my public workgroup folders

do i have to load the app (exe) and/or just the files extracted from the app ?? cuz i dont get why i have that error message appear again, now that i have correct version, 13.2 and choosing the unzipped files ready for install

edit; i do recall trying to upgrade few months back and now i have the TVADDONS logo on my front skin when starting the app and if memory serves, THAT logo was NOT there before..could it be my upgrade was completed even if i go to systems and it shows v12.2? that would be weird and might explain the error message -add on does not have correct structure- ?

i might go to addons forum if you cant help, but thanks all the same , much appreciated!

edit; guys, it could be i have upgraded already few months back and forgot how it worked out and im only confused why the system still shows v12.2 it could be a software upgrade to 13.2 but the box won't change that upgrade version? --- kodi. tv does say you can load/install upgrade to Gotham on android devices which is v13.1 and i cant even install the files form THAT one (version) who knows..not a huge deal, everything still updates the latest repos and addons ...sorry for the bother, guys , again, happy holidays!

thanks, tried this but after i insert USB flash drive and then go to "install from zip file" i choose"external storage" and none of the files show up..was this right? or is there another step im missing cuz the box doesnt seam to want to recognize the flash...this is annoying but im sure its simple once i find out ...lol would very much appreciate your help there , thanks

if you download Kodi 14.0 or XBMC 13.2 Gotham,, make sure you use the ARM version of android.. it will be an, ".apk" file
            do not open xbmc

press home menu and go to apps,, then go to downloads or file manager and browse to your usb thumb drive, SD1 (or SD2 etc.. depending if you have other storage devices attached) then highlight the file "xbmc-13.2-Gotham-armeabi-v7a.apk" or the newer one just released today "kodi-14.0-Helix-armeabi-v7a.apk" and click/run it.. it will install and/or upgrade itself if its already installed.. after its done, open xbmc or kodi from apps or video and put you add-ons in etc and your done..

remember,, you dont install it from inside XBMC... you install it the same way you install anything else on your vbox.. through apps

XBMC is now known as Kodi (starting with version 14+

because Kodi version is so new.. it is better to use XBMC 13.2 Gotham till the bugs are worked out (till version 14.2 or so,, in about 4 months)

Vbox come default with pre-installed apps (not really preinstalled... ready to be installed is a better description... this is hard coded along with the Vmedia TV app.. but XBMC always installs to the same place.. so no matter what version you have it will upgrade or fresh install... regardless of what the icon says it is

thanks, tried all the above at least a dozen times beforehand as i would per usual running a pc ( have decent knowledge of USB and hd drives and all of that)..but for the life'o me i cant pull the file in question cuz every time i mount the flash drive it will show up in storage as mounted and the space avail BUT not able to access/pull the data on the drive either via the storage or app section ...if i tried via apps all i get to is the sd card, dll'd apps, running, all files menu
..so then, cant even pull that file via file manager ...(using a kingston thumb drive, fat 32 would THAT matter i wonder with compatibilty?) also loaded it on an sd drive and it wont read the data either... wish i could just click on the drives in storage and at least look at folders/files

either way won't allow me to scroll down to the USB slot (line) only allowed to... force stop - uninstall - move to sd card or clear data..no matter which file manager or apps i try
not a very user friendly device/box...imho - head scratcher but ill keep at it who knows whats what, thanks again very much appreciate it, happy holydays!

edit; turns out i finally decided to do a factory boot...i reloaded all files in xbmc and its rock solid...think ill stick with v12.2 ...all repos and updates are loading just fine and no issues at all...ill keep kodi on windows..this way ill have something to compare..not that much diff from what i noticed but i did read there are more bugs with new releases , so , as long as the support files are good for all versions, im good...sorry for the bother guys BUT ill still be curious to know how to work with the USB/SD drives, for future reference, at least ..ill check around in other threads

smokie, I too had to do a factory reset to get Kodi to work properly. I did figure out that it is more stable if you don't have XBMC installed. After you install Kodi, never go near XBMC again! I also found my USB drives would not work as FAT32. Try formatting them as NTFS.
