DLS vs Cable

I've been reluctant in switching over as I have been reading too many of these post My main concern is not so much the TV service, but the internet as my business is based on it. Basically if I don't have an internet connection, I basically will lose business. So my question;

1) Is VMedia worth the risk?
2) What is better DSL or Cable (what is more reliable)

Any help would be appreciated.

I work from home, moved from Start.ca (which had great service) to Vmedia and have had no difference in speed or reliability, service continues to be great with VMedia. (DSL in Hamilton)

What do you have currently? If you stick to the same media-type, you'll likely have similar reliability.

jdrom, right now I'm with Vianet on DSL (currently have 6Mbps/800Kbps)... if I switch to Vmedia they said if I stay DSL I'd only be able to get 6Mbps, but if I go cable I can get 25Mbps. I live in a new development (5 years old) area in Whitby, ON. I'm just trying to weigh the options to leave Vianet and go to Vmedia for the 25Mbps for cable. With Vianet 6Mbps, I've never experienced any downtime in the last 5 years. Just worry I'll switch over and all of a sudden the internet is down all the time or something. I've read some horror stories on here. The hard part is trying to figure out if those horror stories are isolated or the norm.

I'm with jdrom on this one. It seems that all issues I've had (and there haven't been many) have been access issue, Rogers rather than VMedia. They always seem to line up with Rogers issues as noted here http://canadianoutages.com/status/rogers
Can't comment on the DSL side, though I would assume it's the same.

Funny you mention ViaNet. That's what VMedia shows up on SpeedTest too, "ViaNetTV" and my DSL modem login is @dev.vianetdsl.com.

I imagine if you move to VMedia DSL, it'll be identical to what you have, while saving money. It's hard to say how reliable Cable will be in your area though, if your friendly with your neighbours, maybe ask them if they have Cable Internet from Rogers/Cogeco/**** and if they notice any downtime.

I have always be an advocate of Cable for several reasons.. one being that I dislike bell so much, that I never ever have to deal with them, I rather deal with cable..
dealing with cable is easy; the line is activated and that is all.. the other reason being: Cable has more options off speed and packages in remote or not upgraded areas that some people live in.. Not to mention, Bell is will more games with 3rd party providers than Rogers will.

I dunno - I've read a lot of horror stories about people dealing with Rogers screwing around with folks here as well. And in my area (Oakville), at least, there's only *one* cable package, and it's WAY more expensive than the comparable DSL package.
