  • Experiences with NVidia Shield (2019)

    We have been VMedia customers for a couple of years or so and generally happy with the service and support. We have multiple HD TVs with most using Chromecast with GoogleTV and the main one using NVidia Shield because the main TV is a 4k unit and we wanted to get the best view we could.

    Over the years we have had odd behaviours which culminated recently where the Shield would often seem to lock up. Some services like VMedia just stopped playback and others (Britbox, Plex, Emby), would show a blue circle cycling. This might last as long as 3 minutes and sometimes recovered before we bothered to exit whatever app was running and restart.

    The 'lock ups' got annoying and caused us to investigate, trying switching from our wired network at the Shield to wifi, removing the sandisk from the Shield and performing a factory reset.

    Nothing made a difference.

    So we have now acquired a Chromecast 4k. Since its installation there have been no lockups at all on any streams.

    So it appears to me as though for whatever reason, the Shield device was not working as it should.

    I wanted to let others (including support) know of what we have done to apparently get around our various issues! Obviously other users may be perfectly happy with a Shield (2019) but we now have one for sale if someone is interested!
